Hi April, could you firstly tell WWW readers a little bit about you?
As the creative force behind BlueBird Wedding Stationery, I’m April. Based in picturesque rural Herefordshire, I work independently, with a trusted partner in my husband who lends a helping hand when needed. My journey began with a degree in Graphic Design and an upbringing surrounded by artistic family members. It was only natural that I’d find myself drawn to crafting one-of-a-kind designs for others, bringing joy to those special moments.
What do you love/dislike about your job?
As a professional involved in making special moments unforgettable, I’m grateful to be part of the most significant day in someone’s life, even if it’s just through my work. The thought of not being able to witness the big reveal and see the joy on the couple’s faces is something that sometimes keeps me up at night – that’s why I have so much respect for photographers who get to experience it firsthand. On the flip side, there’s no greater reward than seeing a bride’s face light up when she sees her final product, knowing that I’ve helped create something truly unique and meaningful. It’s moments like those that make all the hard work worth it. As for what I dislike? Let’s just say I’m not a fan of endless sales calls – but that’s about as negative as it gets!
How did you get into the wedding industry?
As I exchanged vows with my husband in 2011, I was introduced to the world of wedding invitation design – an experience that sparked a passion within me. The positive feedback from our guests only fueled my enthusiasm, and soon I found myself working at a local printers, crafting bespoke wedding invitations for clients. Yet, despite the fulfillment I derived from this work, I couldn’t help but feel constrained by the limitations of being employed. I yearned for the freedom to express my creativity on my own terms and share my love for the wedding industry with others. Moreover, the memories of planning our special day still lingered in my mind, leaving me eager to once again be immersed in the excitement of the wedding world.
What do you aim to achieve for your clients?
As I embark on this creative journey, my primary goal was to craft an alternative to the generic wedding stationery that dominates the digital landscape. By offering a personal, friendly, and stress-free experience, I’ve garnered numerous positive testimonials that attest to my dedication. I’m acutely aware of the overwhelming pressure that comes with planning a wedding – thus, I strive to alleviate this burden by handling your stationery needs with ease. I aim to infuse each invitation with an air of excitement from the moment it’s opened, ensuring that the happy couple will treasure their unique design. Furthermore, affordability is a top priority; I actively work to keep my prices reasonable and accessible for all.
What style is your work?
While I don’t subscribe to a specific style, I strive to be versatile and accommodating when it comes to my designs. I do, however, have a soft spot for bold and vibrant aesthetics. To stay ahead of the curve, I make it a point to keep up with current trends, which often involve themes like vintage, rustic, or art deco. This allows me to create innovative designs that fit these popular styles.In addition to embracing current trends, I also try to bring something new and unique to the table. For instance, my ‘Alice in Wonderland’ inspired invitations have garnered critical acclaim and are a personal favorite of mine. By offering such distinctive pieces, I aim to provide clients with one-of-a-kind designs that reflect their individuality.
Could you tell us some information about your packages/prices?
With a vast array of items available to purchase directly from my website, many customers take the first step by reaching out to inquire about customizing small details or colors. I’m more than happy to accommodate such requests, as every item is fully personalized with your chosen text and colors. What’s more, I can easily swap out design elements, like butterflies for hearts or birds for chickens, making each order a unique and bespoke creation.To illustrate this point, I’ve taken a vintage postcard design featuring the Eiffel Tower and adapted it to incorporate the Statue of Liberty and the Sydney Opera House – all without adding any extra costs. This flexibility is what sets my designs apart.When it comes to pricing, I offer save-the-date cards starting at just 99p each, and invitations from as low as £1.29. My pocketfold invitations are particularly popular, as they provide ample space for conveying important details to your guests. In fact, my latest range of these starts at just £2.75 each.If you’re looking for something truly one-of-a-kind, I’m always up for the challenge – though there might be a small fee involved, depending on the scope of the project. There’s nothing quite like bringing a customer’s vision to life, so don’t hesitate to reach out and explore your bespoke design options.Finally, all of my invitation designs can be paired with matching items, such as table plans, place cards, and order of service sheets – ensuring that every detail ties together seamlessly. Do you have any tips for couples in selecting their stationery?
When it comes to ordering wedding stationery, I’ve found that timing is everything. In my experience, it’s best not to leave it too late – I’ve even produced orders just weeks before the big day! While I always strive to accommodate last-minute requests, it can still be a stressful experience for the couple and myself alike. It’s also crucial to remember that you never know who might not be able to attend or who you might want to add to your guest list at the last minute. For this reason, I highly recommend ordering a few extra invitations just in case.In addition to getting the timing right, it’s essential to choose a stationery company that offers a personal touch and is willing to put in the time and effort required to get your order just right. While larger companies may not have the same level of dedication due to their higher volume of clients, I believe that a more personalized approach can make all the difference.Before placing an order, be sure to review any additional fees or charges, as well as minimum order requirements.
